2024_graduate_newsletter-hilight

We are so proud of the 18 college students who are graduating this year. 2024 sees our largest graduating class ever, and every student has worked hard to achieve this important milestone. With degrees in hand, our graduates have access to opportunities that can provide the resources and stability needed to break the cycle of poverty in which they were born.

Join us in celebrating the 12 sponsored students and 6 ASH scholars who make up our class of 2024!

Learn more about our graduates, including photos, and degrees earned, can be found on our website.

ASH Scholarships Make College Education Possible
for More Students

Every spring, our Board of Directors awards scholarships to impoverished college students who live in the areas we serve and have outstanding academic records. Named after our founder, the Amelia S. Hernandez (ASH) College Scholarship Program provides recipients with a $400 stipend, which is enough to cover their costs associated with attending college and allow them to fully focus on their studies.

For the 2024-2025 school year, Philippines Humanitarian was able to award 27 full and 7 partial ASH scholarships. Next month, our 34 ASH scholars will join 72 college students who are part of our Student Sponsorship Program. Thank you to our student sponsors and our generous donors who have all played a critical role in building up our college program.

A complete list of the 2024-2025 ASH scholars, including their fields of study, is available on our website.

Generous Donation Funds Amelia’s Pantry for a Year

Started over six years ago, our feeding program, Amelia’s Pantry, has been an important support for our students and their families. Addressing hunger, which can severely interfere with learning ability, Amelia’s Pantry provides daily meals to children in Payatas, and monthly grocery rations to over 100 children and their families in the remote village of Macabud. Our NGO partner in the Philippines, the KapatidKita MahalKita Foundation (KMF), implements the program, and is absolutely committed to its success.

Last month, Philippines Humanitarian received a very generous donation specifically for this program, and Amelia’s Pantry is now funded for the next 12 months. The anonymous donors have supported the program practically since it began. On behalf of KMF and our Board of Directors, we express our deepest thanks for this gift, which allows us to continue providing food assistance to those in need.

Call for Sponsors

We currently have bright and deserving students who are eagerly seeking support for their educational journeys, and we are asking for your help in finding sponsors for them. If you’re already a sponsor, please share your experiences with your friends, family members, and colleagues, and encourage them to consider joining our Student Sponsorship Program. Direct them to the online student profiles and FAQs about Philippines Humanitarian and our programs. Facebook and Instagram posts about our student candidates are easy to share. We are ready to answer any questions they might have, so please share our contact information as well.

New Sponsorship Rates

If you’ve visited the Student Sponsorship page on our website, you may have noticed that we’ve made some changes to our sponsorship rates. Under the new plan, monthly rates remain the same for the majority of our students. For those in Grades 7-10, however, their rates are now $27 rather than $24.

Like almost everywhere else in the world, the Philippines has seen a rise in its cost of living, and the rate change for our middle grade students will address those increased expenses. An additional bonus is that with only three rate levels, down from four, our program should be a little simpler for our sponsors.

New sponsorship rates will be in effect for the 2024-2025 school year. Monthly donors who are impacted by this change will be contacted in August. Those with annual sponsorships will see the increased rate on their renewal reminders. As always, we absolutely understand if someone is unable to increase their sponsorship, and we are grateful for their current level of giving.
