Her mother works six days a week as a garbage sorter at a junkshop, where she earns approximately PHP 200 a day. The family lives in a small house provided by the owner of the junkshop. They face extremely difficult living conditions, as they have no running water, and they have been without electricity for almost a month.

Arjhon Nicko

Arjhon is 10-years-old and a Grade 4 student. He is the second of four children.

Arjhon’s father is a ride-hailing driver. He drives two to three times a week and earns between PHP 8,000 to 10,000 a month. His mother is a full-time housewife.

Athena’s father works as a taxi driver. He earns between PHP 1,500 to PHP 1,800 per day, but he must pay a daily boundary fee of PHP 1,100, leaving him with approximately PHP 400 to PHP 700, depending on the number of passengers. He drives three to four days a week, and his income is not consistent. Athena’s mother is a full-time housewife who takes care of the children and manages the household.

Ayesha Elize

Ayesha is 9-years-old and a Grade 4 student. She is the eldest of two children.

Ayesha’s father is a car audio technician, earning PHP 15,000 each month. Her mother is a dedicated homemaker, who takes care of Ayesha’s younger brother and her elderly grandmother. When the family is able, her mother allocates some money to a small online business, which brings in about PHP 800 a month.

Elizabeth is 21-years-old. She graduated from Senior High School in 2023, and is now in her first year of college, where she is studying social work. She is the sixth of seven siblings.

Elizabeth’s father is unemployed, and her mother is a full-time housewife. The family relies on the elder daughters’ combined income to meet their daily needs. They live in a house with concrete walls and a metal roof, with the upper and other sections made of plywood. They have access to basic utilities, such as water (PHP 200) and electricity (PHP 700).

Elizabeth had to delay her college education so she could help her parents send her elder siblings to college. She is eager to continue her studies.
